Gift Ideas Mother’s Day 2020

First let me say, we’ve made it! These past few weeks have been intense, not to mention the additional pressure some creatives feel to constantly be “working”. In reality, this isn’t a vacation and some of our lives will forever be changed. Even if you don’t feel the most productive  give yourself a pass for just “making it” and staying strong mentally. I know this is a very difficult time for many, for several reasons, whether that be a lack of resources including income, uncertainty with your job, loss of loved ones and just the realization of what many believe to be our “new normal”. As cliche as it may sound, I just want to let you know… “This too shall pass.” You’re all in my prayers and I hope we can all come out of this mentally stronger!

Okay, so of course Mother’s Day is quickly approaching.  I’ll admit it kind of snuck up on me this year.  I can’t be the only one struggling to keep up with the days of the week. Everything has proven to be a challenging considering the current pandemic. By the time I post this we will be about 2 weeks from Mother’s Day. Just a little background, my mother and I are over 600 miles away.  I currently call Texas home and she’s in Tennessee, so I’m not new to this “distancing” thing. Being the self proclaimed shopaholic that I am I thought I’d help my friends (you) out and provide a few ideas to help ease some of the stress when shopping this year. Here are my top 3 budget (COVID) friendly Mother’s Day ideas to celebrate the special woman or women in your life, be it your mother, a close friend, relative or someone who’s like a mother. I hope this helps! xoxo

#SelfCareSunday…

I’ve seen some of you guys on Instagram interacting with your children and Lord knows you could definitely use this time to take a break! Molly and Issa aren’t the only ones that can indulge in “Self Care Sunday” right?! Many women are on the struggle bus when it comes to this whole DIY home beauty. I’ve finally come to terms with it. I mean let’s be honest, no one can really see us anyway so does it even really matter?… The answer is yes….YES, it does matter. Although we are home there’s still a need for personal time, even  if it’s a simple quick pick me up. The way you look can directly affect your mood. You don’t believe me? Think back to the last time you got your hair done, I’m sure you snapped a pic as soon as  you got in the car or hopped on FaceTime with your girlfriends… exactly! “Monique did ittttt!!!!!!”. Okay I digress. All I’m saying is that when you look good you feel good. Being able to take a few minutes to yourself and have a little “Spa Day” actually helps. Put together an at home spa package. This can be as simple or extravagant as you like. The key is to provide a relaxing atmosphere for mental escape.

Heres a few ideas to get you started creating the perfect in home spa retreat with a few of my favorite items linked.

#PlantMom…

I’ve noticed having live plants in my apartment help with my mood and mental clarity, not to mention they actually aide in  purifying the air. My mom is like the “Plant Whisper” she definitely has a green thumb and loves her babies. Live plants can be a simple way to add additional decor to your home.  For that person that needs to “take care of something” or just a daily reminder of life, this is perfect!  I’ve found several websites that offer plant delivery, these delivery services vary based on plant type and size as well.  You can find anything from a dainty and decorative zebra aloe plant to something larger and fruitful like an actual lemon tree. You’d be surprised at the various options available for delivery. And if you start now….they should make it on time! Check out Lulas Garden, I just love their whole aesthetic.

#GetHerGrooveBack…

Okay again I know these are difficult times for many of us.  While traveling and additional funds may be minimal take advantage of some of the subscriptions services you may currently have. I don’t know any millennial that doesn’t use Spotify or Apple Music. Create a personalized playlist.  This could be a collection of songs the two of you enjoy together or songs that remind you of her, make it “platinum” by sending a brief message as to why you picked each song! Or even better be her personal DJ for the morning, we’ve all seen the epic producer battles on Instagram. Set up a FaceTime or Duo call and work your magic. Either way it’s the perfect time to be creative!

I hope this helps, let me know what ideas you come up with yourself!

Stay safe! xo
